TIPS FOR MIDLIFE JOB SEEKERS

Stay focused on long-term career goals. Despite the perception that over-50 job-seekers do not have many working years left, career counselors say the reality is many of them will work for at least an additonal 10 years.
Try to fill the gap-between the end of your unemployment benefits and your next job with temporary positions instead of "settling" for a job you don't really want.
Enroll in a class-if you need to upgrade your skills, whether related toyour career or th job search process.
Start a journal-which will give you a place to write about your feelings regarding the job loss and set down your goals for the future.
Exercise-It's a good way to relieve anxiety
Complete simple home imporvement tasks- or other personal projects. These can provide a feeling of accomplishment as well as a distraction from looking for a job.
Make time for yourself- spend time with family, take short trips if possible and treat yourself to inexpensive recreational activities.
Don't wait toolong to start looking- While it is advisable to take a break immediately after job loss, the longer you are out of work, theless motivated and more discouraged you are likely to become.
